Hospital anyone?

Alright...for all that have been wondering- here is the story of my beautiful ambulance/morphine/hospital story.

The whole sha-bang with the hospital was crazy. I'd had back pains in Thailand a bit but I just attributed it to the bed being a bit hard and walking on the sand with my really flat feet. Then Thursday night, the night we came back from Thailand, I was on the plane and I got the worst pain in my lower back. Plus, I felt like I had to go to the bathroom constantly. I was in pain and miserable. All I could do was cry. Luckily I got some pain meds from the staff which dulled the pain. I honestly can say that was the most miserable flight of my life.
Once I got off the plane in Brisbane for our connecting flight to Sydney, I was just fine. I didn't have any back pain and I didn't have to constantly run to the loo. So then I figured it had just been altitude sickness from going scuba diving and then up flying too soon. I still had a bit of a dull lower back pain on the following saturday and sunday but nothing bad--- so I thought!
Monday morning at about 445am I woke up in extreme pain in my lower back and a bit of discomfort in the front. I tried laying in different positions on my bed, I tried laying on the bathroom floor, I tried pain meds...I tried everything! The painkiller I'd taken was a joke! After about a half hour I decided to wake Phil up for a blessing. I was sobbing and he saw the lights on and knew something wasn't right. He gave me a blessing and told me he was calling his mom. She suggested the ambulance which he had already told me he was going to call. Everything in me always says NO to ambulances cuz 'I'm fine' but this time I wasn't cuz I couldn't even stop rolling in pain or crying to tell him no!
The ambulance came...530am with no sirens thankfully :) and they gave me a low dose of morphine through an IV in my hand. That dulled the pain enough that I was happy when I wasn't moving. Then it was off to the hospital! They started me on IV antibiotics where the morphine had been given....
*a personal shout out to the nurse who went RIGHT THROUGH my vein the first time while taking my blood thus making for a very sore arm and yet another needle prick*
...They did a CT scan on me but the results weren't clear because I'm too small. So then we had MORE waiting so I could get an ultra sound.
~All smiles! .Thank.You. morphine!~
(and my phil...he stayed with me all day :)

After about five hours of waiting I finally got an ultra sound. We went in there thinking and almost knowing that it was an infection that had spread up into my kidneys but the doctor had to do all the scans and tests to make sure it wasn't kidney stones or appendicitis. They didn't let me eat all day in case they had to give me certain meds or rush me into surgery. ughh! Finally at around 630pm they decided that was what it was and that they could discharge me from the hospital because I was no longer in pain (thank you meds) and they didn't find stones or anything in the ultra sound.
I got to eat there before I went home. I hadn't eaten for 20 hours! I was SOSOSOSO hungry! I told the nurse that brought me food that I loved her.
She got a laugh out of that lol.

So all things said and done, I got to go home after 12 hours at the beloved hospital. I'm on anti-biotics now and have had no problems since. Boy I love medicine!

It's long, but that is the story...here are a few small blessings though...
*****
-the main ambulance med has been climbing in
american fork canyon (made me feel a bit better)
-phil hadn't found his phone in the moving mess and we had just decided the night before that we needed to find it, and did. without it we wouldn't have been able to call his mum or the ambo's.
-we had just activated my medical insurance 3 days earlier
-the ultra sound tech goes to Moab every year

So it was good it happened when it did. not in thailand and after we'd found Phil's phone. Thank you Australia Mum for coming to the hospital so early in the morning,
Three days in australia and I already got to visit the hospital and ride in an ambulance! Woot!
